FLUX.2 [klein]: Fast Unified Image Generation and Editing
FLUX.2 [klein] is the fastest image model family from Black Forest Labs, unifying text-to-image generation and instruction-based image editing in a single compact architecture. This deployment runs the 4 billion parameter checkpoint, a rectified flow transformer distilled for end-to-end inference in as little as under a second while retaining quality that punches well above its size.
The model is built for interactive workflows, production deployments, and latency-critical applications where real-time image generation matters.
Key Features
- Unified Generation and Editing: Handles text-to-image generation, single-image editing, and multi-reference editing in one model, with no separate editing checkpoint or fine-tuning required. Generate images from text, edit an existing image with natural-language instructions, combine multiple reference images into a single composition, and keep characters, objects, and styles consistent across generations
- Sub-Second Inference: As the fastest distilled model in the FLUX.2 family, klein generates images in as few as 4 inference steps, making it well suited to interactive applications, rapid creative iteration, and serving pipelines where response latency is the constraint
- Compact and Accessible: At 4 billion parameters, klein is the most accessible model in the FLUX.2 line, designed for local development, edge deployment, and cost-efficient production serving without sacrificing output quality
ComfyUI Workflows
This template provisions the official ComfyUI workflows for FLUX.2 [klein]:
- Text-to-image generation, with both the distilled checkpoint and the undistilled base checkpoint available as selectable subgraphs
- Image editing with the distilled 4B checkpoint for fast instruction-based edits
- Image editing with the 4B base checkpoint for guidance-controlled edits
Example input images for the editing workflows are downloaded automatically, so every workflow runs out of the box.
Architecture
FLUX.2 [klein] 4B is a rectified flow transformer paired with a Qwen3 4B text encoder and the FLUX.2 VAE. Rectified flows learn a direct path between noise and image distributions, enabling high-quality sampling in very few steps. The distilled checkpoint further compresses sampling for sub-second generation, while the base checkpoint preserves classifier-free guidance for finer control and downstream fine-tuning.
Use Cases
- Interactive Applications: Sub-second generation suits user-facing products such as creative tools with live previews, conversational image assistants, and applications that generate imagery in response to user actions
- Creative Iteration: Fast feedback loops for concept art, illustration, storyboarding, and design exploration, with instruction-based editing to refine a composition without starting over
- Production Content Pipelines: Marketing assets, product visualization, social media content, and thumbnail generation at scale, where per-image latency and cost dominate
- Multi-Reference Composition: Combine characters, objects, and styles from multiple reference images into new scenes while maintaining visual consistency, without training LoRA adapters
